One pencil, four colors: how the rainbow core works

No trick and no batteries. The lead is poured as four wedges of color, and the angle of the pencil decides which wedge touches the paper.

  1. Four-wedge coreRed, yellow, blue and green sit side by side in a single lead.
  2. Turn to changeRotate the barrel a quarter turn and the line shifts to the next color.
  3. Flat for stripesHold the pencil low and two or three colors lay down as a ribbon.

  2. Any sharpenerThe barrel is standard width, so the sharpener you already own fits.
  3. Full lengthAbout 7 inches of pencil means months of drawing before it gets stubby.

First pencils for small hands

A regular pencil is a long, thin lever, and a three-year-old grips it like a hammer. ThEast toddler pencils are about half the length and nearly twice the width, with a 5 mm core that survives the pressing. Hexagonal and triangular barrels stay on the table, and every box includes a sharpener sized to fit.

ThEast face paint markers put the color in a pen, so there is no palette to spill and no brush to rinse. Lines dry in seconds and hold through a party, then come off with soap and water or a wet wipe. Choose dual tips for kids' designs, metallics for dress-up, or UV neon for nights under a blacklight.

ThEast ArtJoy Supplies — Spark Your Imagination

About ThEast art supplies for kids

ThEast is an art supply brand built around one simple idea: a child should be able to pick up a pencil and get a surprise. The best-known ThEast product is the 4-in-1 rainbow pencil, a wooden colored pencil whose core contains red, yellow, blue and green at the same time. Turning the pencil while drawing changes the color of the line, which is why rainbow pencils are a staple of party favor bags, classroom reward jars and Valentine exchanges.

ThEast rainbow colored pencils come in packs of 10, 30, 60 and 140, in two finishes: natural wood with printed color swirls, and a holographic black-wood version that sparkles. The triangular barrels are a standard pencil width and work with ordinary sharpeners.

For younger artists, ThEast toddler colored pencils are short, thick and hard to break. The range includes 12-color sets with animal line art, rainbow-core sets with space and ocean barrels, and jumbo triangular pencils with water-soluble cores that can be used dry or wet. Each set ships with a matching sharpener.

ThEast face and body paint markers complete the table. Dual-tip face painting markers suit children's parties, metallic markers add shimmer for costumes, and UV neon markers glow under blacklight for concerts and glow parties. All are designed to dry quickly, resist sweat once dry and wash off with cleanser or soapy water.

Questions parents ask

Can a 4 year old use colored pencils?

Yes. At four most children can manage a pencil, but a short, thick barrel is far easier than an adult-size one. ThEast toddler pencils are 3.4 inches long with a 5 mm core and are made for ages 3 to 6. Full-length rainbow pencils are marked for ages 3 and up.

How do you sharpen rainbow pencils?

The same way as any wooden pencil. ThEast 4-in-1 rainbow pencils have a standard 0.31 inch barrel, so a regular manual or electric sharpener fits. Sharpen gently and stop as soon as there is a point: the soft four-color core does not need a needle tip.

Are jumbo pencils good for toddlers?

They are usually the best place to start. A wider barrel suits the whole-hand grip toddlers use, and a thicker core breaks less often. ThEast jumbo triangular pencils are about 0.6 inches wide and 4.5 inches long.

Do ThEast UV face paint markers glow in the dark?

They glow under a UV blacklight only. In ordinary darkness, or under sunlight and normal lamps, they look like bright neon ink but do not light up.

How do face paint markers come off?

Wet wipes, facial cleanser or soapy water remove them. The ink is water-resistant once dry, so give it a gentle rub. Always test a small patch of skin before drawing a full design.
